Dyson announces newest cordless vacuum in its Outsize line

A lineup of new Dyson vacuums is coming, including an addition to the Outsize collection; a group of cordless vacuums with extra big dustbins, designed to mimic Dyson's older full-sized models. While we’re awaiting testing of this new model in our Reviewed vacuum lab, we did get some hands-on time with the new Gen5outsize. Here's what we learned about its capabilities.

The Gen5outsize will carry a Hyperdymium motor—capable of spinning at 135,000 rpm. We believe this motor will provide superior suction, building on the excellent results Dyson vacuums typically demonstrate in our lab tests.

Dyson announced that the Gen5outsize comes with a HEPA H13 filter. This filter is rated to capture 99.99% of particulates down to 0.1 microns in width and can even trap some viruses.

On top of the filter upgrade, the battery is also getting a refresh. Dyson is putting a more energy-dense battery in the Gen5outsize to provide up to 70 minutes of fade-free cleaning time.

Our experience with Outsize models has been a mixed bag. They clean very well, but for the added cost, the most prominent feature is a bigger dustbin. However, we are still excited to test the Gen5outsize out in our labs.

The Gen5outsize will be available on June 6 for $1,049.
